FAQ

frequently asked questions: read before booking

How much do you charge?

I price flat rate, per tattoo based on a sliding scale rate of $100-170/hr.

Some placements, like neck, back or hands may be subject to a small, additional charge. A price range of a low end and high end will be provided upon booking based on size/placement, but most flash costs $200-450, at 3-4in.

Sliding scale is for those that would usually otherwise lack the access to tattooing because of monetary barriers, such as people of color, queer/trans folx, and disabled people. I ask that people with salaried jobs, those that have wealth, cis-gender folks, etc. pay my standard rate. To utilize sliding scale, pick a rate your comfortable with, or tell me your max budget in the booking form, no explanation needed.

While guesting, my rate will reflect the average rate of the local area, or shop, and deposits are $100.

What type of payment do you accept?

For deposits, I accept Zelle, and Venmo. For the day of, I strongly prefer cash payments, but I will also accept Zelle. I do not accept Venmo payments for anything other than deposits. I am open to working with budgets that meet my needs, flat-rates for large scale projects, trades of equal value goods or services, and payment plans, so please email me with any questions!

When are you available?

I tattoo on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. My availability frequently changes so check the calendar on the booking form for the most up to date openings, or join my Booking & Flash Updates Channel on Instagram for last minute openings, cancelation spots, and first dibs on flash.

Where are you located?

I work out of my home studio in Irving Park, Chicago IL. I am on the second floor accessible by two flights of stairs. There is free parking on my street and I'm located about one mile from the Addison blue line and many nearby bus stops. There are three cats and another person also occupy the space, but will never be present in the room. Let me know of any allergies when filling out your booking form.

Are your books open?

My books are always open! This means I'm always taking tattoo appointments and painting commissions. If I don't have availability posted that lines up with you, feel free to write in your future availability in the booking form, or check back after the 15th of the month to see an updated list of openings.

Are you a COVID conscious tattoo artist?

Yes I am. I am immunocompromised, and take my health and the health of my community very seriously. All people present at the appointment will be masked with at least a k/n95 mask the entire session, and I have a HEPA air filter on at all times. I take frequent COVID tests and encourage you to take one before our appointment. Do not show up to an appointment without wearing a mask. Not only does it show me you didn't read my emails, but it's dangerous to my health, and puts me at risk. If you're in need of a face mask, don't hesitate to ask for one because I have plenty to share! Or get in contact with the Chicago mask bloc to get free k/n95's delivered (@chicagomaskbloc on instagram)

Can I bring a guest?

Yes, you may bring one guest to your appointment. Every person at the appointment must be wearing a K/N95 mask. I have a small couch in the room they may sit on, and there are a few coffee shops, restaurants, and book stores near by.

What if I have to reschedule?

If you need to reschedule your appointment, email me immediately, and include a couple new dates that work best to reschedule to, no explanation needed. To book a new appointment I require a new deposit to be placed. This means your original deposit will be forfeit, as it is non-refundable and only covers one date, unless the rescheduling is initiated by myself. The same goes for canceling an appointment.

What if I'm running late to my appointment?

I prioritize open communication, so if you're running more than a couple minutes late for any reason, just shoot me a text with an estimate on when you may arrive. No worries! If you're running more than 30 minutes late, a small fee may be applied, or we may have to reschedule, if it runs into other clients appointments, (but I don't typically schedule more than one person a day, so this case is rare).

I need a touch-up, how do I book one?

I offer a free touch up within a year of receiving the tattoo. To book a touchup, please email me with photos of the tattoo, and your availability. All touchups after one year, will be subject to a small additional charge.

What if a flash design I want is no longer available?

If a design you love has been taken, you may always request a custom design based off of any flash that is no longer available. You may also request to make a color switch to any flash for no added cost.

What is hand-poke tattooing?

"Hand-poke" tattooing is one of many names for manual, or machine free tattooing. Hand-poke tattooing is a classic way to tattoo that doesn't use a machine, or electricity. It was originally utilized by indigenous peoples, rich with history, and is now widely used because of its accessibility. Each needle poke is manually pushed into the skin by hand. This makes for a slower, quieter, and more rhythmic experience. It is not more or less painful than a machine tattoo but it can be less traumatic to the skin than a machine tattoo, and hand-poke tattoos tend to heal faster. Machine-free tattooing can be done in any style and they can look exactly like a machine tattoo, or extremely different, and your specific experience will depend on the artist's practices.

What does it mean to be trauma-informed?

To be trauma informed means that I have had specific education about what trauma is, and how it manifests in the body, mind and spirit. I practice informed consent-driven approach. This looks like, reestablishing consent throughout the tattoo process, talking through what I'm doing and why, before doing so, and providing a quiet clean and safe space to experience transformative pain.  The books I have used in this education are: My Grandmother's Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies by Resmaa Menakem, The Body Is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love by Sonya Renee Taylor, Self-CompassionFierce Self-Compassion, and The Yin and Yang of Self-Compassion by Kristen Neff PhD, Unmasking Autism by Devon Price PhD, and What My Bones Know, by Stephanie Foo, as well as attending weekly trauma therapy myself, since 2019.  Feel free to email me if you have any questions about my practice.

What if I don't like my custom design?

This happens! Don't worry, if you don't like the design/s I have prepared for you, small changes can always be made day of. If a redesign has to take place, we will move the appointment forward as a consultation. During this time you may tell me everything you have in mind while I draw and take notes. Your deposit will cover the consultation appointment and you will place a new deposit for your new appointment date.

Can I use numbing cream?

I strongly suggest against using any numbing creams before coming to a tattoo appointment, as they are not FDA approved, and cause unpredictable healing and excess damage to the skin. I use Bactine throughout my session and soak the tattoo when needed, as it contains 4% lidocaine, and numbs really well.

I want a color tattoo but I'm worried about how it might heal. Do you do color tests?

I offer a free color test for melanated folks who book a color tattoo. Some people may worry about how color ink will show up on their skin. I will create a small design, using the colors we have in mind, then after it heals (approx. 3 weeks to a month), we will use our favorite colors in the final tattoo.

Do you accept non-monetary tips?

Yes! Although tipping is considered "customary" in tattooing, I understand that the cost of the tattoo alone can be a lot. If you feel compelled to throw an extra thank you my way, I accept tips in any form: drinks, lunch, w**d, books, plant cuttings, your art etc.

Do you do trades?

Yes! Its a goal of mine to live as anti-capitalist as I can, so if both of our needs are met in the trade I'm happy to go the money free route. Things I'm interested in trading my services for: tattoos or tattoo supplies, haircut/color, body work such as massage or acupuncture, an unlocked iPhone 13 or newer, grocery store gift cards or nutrition/meal services, w**d, home stuff such as furniture or cleaning services, photoshoot/headshots ect. Please reach out if this applies to you!

I cant get a tattoo right now but I still want to support you. How can I do this?

My clients and friends are the reason why I get to follow my dreams and passion and help change lives with tattooing. Sharing and commenting my posts on social media, and word of mouth are extremely helpful to my growth. You may also always send me coffee money over Venmo, or commission other artwork, such as a painting or drawing, customized clothing art, or an astrology reading as well!
